I hike just about every day in the winter. I am retired and I live in Wells. I often hike to the sacandaga campground and sometimes camp there. I follow Abrams/Karuth (a dirt) road that is on the opposite side of the river from route 30 and then a short walk on a trail to the campground.

I also hike into Whitehouse (the road is closed for the last two miles in the winter) and along the NPT North to Piseco or South To Benson. I camp there sometimes too as well as Buckhorn Lake on the Piseco end where there is a lot of game to shoot (with a camera, not a gun!).

I will also be dong the NPT between Piseco and Placid in the winter as well as into Griffin Gorge and Auger Falls and my favorite spot, the Gorge and the waterfalls on the West Branch of the Sacandaga.

Of course it goes without saying that many of these hikes and camping trips require snowshoes.
