Cascade 02-10-2019

Simple quick TR of short hike up Cascade. Likely will soon be out of date with the upcoming storm:

Clarification: I knew DEC opened a new trailhead from Mt Van Hovenburg rec area. Is that now the only trailhead? Does it go to Porter too? The one from 73 is that now unavailable?

Hm - don't know anything about that (a new trailhead for Cascade). The route 73 trailhead was definitely open (trail register plus nice new info sign next to it).

Also didn't see any indication of a new trail route / junction anywhere along the trail itself.

Where did you hear about this? Do you have a link we could look at?

DEC will begin building the new trail up Cascade Mountain in 2019. The lower section of the Mt. Van Hoevenberg East Trail will provide access to the start of that trail. As described in the 2018 High Peaks Complex Amendment, once the trail is complete, DEC plans to close the current Cascade Mountain Trailhead and the lower approximately one mile of the current trail.
