2017-2018 Ice Fishing Season

Well have some reports of fishable ice in the tri lake area. Find it hard to believe with the warm weather we have had. Will be checking things out tomorrow and let everyone know what i find. Its been warm in the day but below 32 at night so i guess if it melted the snow on top and refroze it could have layered quick.

Still a no go on the waters as of 12/2/17. 2 inches at most half white ice half clear. With a few days of warm still we will have to wait another week to check again.

Not only did we get a lot of warm and rain but the wind did a big number on the ice. Anything that was starting is back to square one. Most the big bodies of water opened back up. Small ponds open along shores with ice floating in middle. First thought on hitting the ice this weekend is most likely out of the question. Looking like another week to get back to where we were.

Mananged to find 4-5 inches of ice on a small pond near paul smiths. Meanwhile colby still had a lot of spots with open water and the shoreline at hospital being all water. We also just got 8 inches some spots more of snow. This is insulating and slushing out the smaller ponds but will obviously not have much affect on the bigger waters with open water. Other go to early ice spots have layered ice, inch on bottom slush layer in middle and another inch on top. This should lock up quick to a good 5 inches or so but with all this snow who knows now. Its cold enough that once it starts to slush it should freeze in a few days. Looking at the spot i went last few days i wouldnt walk on it now being so much slush on top of 4 inches of ice.

No it wasn't Jones Pond had an inch on top and an inch underneath with a slushy layer in between. The ice was also white ice not even clear. It was totally sketchy and not worth my time to spend out there. Not sure why everyone has the want to Fish Jones yeah usually has first ice but the fishing is literally nothing special bunch of little pike. If you guys plan to drive up here to fish there's so many more places that are worth it.

I would also bring your own bait if anyone plans to come. I have called around both places in Tupper are supposed to get it Friday or Saturday but they don't know for sure. No one in Saranac Lake or even Bloomingdale has bait. It red top or Redemption Center in Tupper Lake don't get it there will be nothing within a 60-mile radius.

Everyone use caution on the ice. Recent warm weather has slushed it out a lot.

Those 'trout' have been drinking too much Bud Lite. They lost all sense of who they are!
