Stream fishing around Lewey Lake and Saranac

Hi, this is my first post. Though I no longer live in NY I spent a lot of time backpacking, canoeing and x-country skiing the Adirondacks over a 20 year period in my younger days.

I'll be up in the Adirondacks for family vacation next week and will be based in a couple of places. I'd like to be able to get a way for a couple of hours and do a little fly fishing. Is there any decent stream fishing around Lewey Lake this time of year? I know there's the West Branch of the Ausable not far from Saranac. Is there anywhere else that might fish well? Small brookie streams are fine. Feel free to email me if you prefer.
Thanks.

Try the Indian River (when they're not releasing water).
Pray for cool nights.
If you have more than a few hours, you might consider the colder reaches of the Jessup or Miami. Couldn't tell you how they'll be running next week... but hey, that's fishin'.
Good Luck and let us know how you make out.

PS> If GBS reads this and his time permits, he might be willing to show you around and put you onto some fish...

If the guy in the Black Van is willin' to give it up, well then by all means, lets go fishin'. If you can drop down the "Big Hill" aways and wanna meet in Indian Lake, I can prolly point you out a few spots that may have a trout or two layin' in 'em.

Let me know...

Lewey, Lewey

GBS,

Thanks for the offer. I'll be up at Lewey Monday p.m. til Wed. a.m.
Let me know if you're available. email is lostland1 [at] verizon [dot] net

Figuring a 7' 3 wt.should be fine.

the grouse

****

I'd only have a pretty limited time to fish, like when everyone else is at the beach or pretty early in the morning, so if it didn't work out I can just try up Sucker Brook as Adk Keith suggested.

I have great luck this time of year on little brooks up in this area with a size 12 grasshopper imitation -even in the heat of the day. Simple to tie too:
#12 2x long hook, 1x fine
Body: yellow sinthetic dubbing, pretty thick
rib: thin gold tinsel
head/wing: spun natural deer body hair, flaired Muddler style

That's it!

Have fun,

-Aaron

Nice bug.
I hear what you say.
Humpy's and Stimulators too!!!

All my grasshoppers have been Shredded.
A week ago, I had none more.
Had to fish a Black Cricket.
(I can't see the damn thing, but it catch me Fish).

Hurt my eyes so bad... I broke down and bought a Baker's half-dozen/Grasshopper imitations.
"Hello... Ms. Madame X... !"

It's fun to fish a hopper w/a dropper.
(Sinking black ants have been berry berry good to me for wild Trout).
Winged Ants are out now too...
All is good on small cold streams right now.
And sh it's been OK on big water recently, but only for smaller Troutsss.

Anyhow... What the **** do I know...?
I can dial-in the the Time of Day, the Buzzin' Bug, the Forbidden Fish...
and Just when I got it all figured out... for five days straight,
Everything Changes.
Just a little bit.

Obviously a Comedy, w/Elements of Doom and Cruelty.

Soft-hackles on the Swing are King.
ZugBugs, Princes, and Iso-wiggle-nymphs Rule Right Now.
Fast water and banks are profitable.
(Iso's swim like Sin, yet hatch like Stones).

Seems meaningless, yet...
Everything is about to Explode.

White Flies are Ready to perform their Obscenities.
Salmon will shortly be Staging.
Early Steel... Raging.

Every Thing is about to Explode.

Oh! the more I Fish... the less I know.

Aaron, I'll be in your neck of the woods this week.
Ask me if I wanna fish...

Do you know Ralph at the STP...?
