I bought it.

It wasn't a Pack at all and the seller was an interesting young man. (I'm being polite...he was a lying rascal).

Funny thing is Old Town can't even figure out what is is. It is the size of a Pack, weighs like a Pack, but is not Royalex. Wood thwarts, cane seats and a hokey PACK logo on opposite ends. Old Town is not aware of a red model either.

FROM very nice employee there:

"Bill,

We were able to locate the build slip for this canoe! Looks like this boat should be a 14’ Katahdin canoe that was made in Nov. of 1984 for the 85’ season. It was originally shipped to Thompsons, MA. It seems like someone would have stuck a Pack sticker on this canoe since the Pack decal doesn’t quite match the color or design of the Old Town decal on the boat. "

I'm not sure it was a Kathadin either as the handles are wrong for that year, plus the HIN was off a few digits.

Either way, it sure cleaned up nice, got a $5 handle from Ed's Canoes and a gallon of elbow grease and she looks pretty good.

Bringing her up to Star this weekend for the maiden voyage

Strange story indeed!!!! Still looks like a good hull??

I just scored a Pack for a quart of my maple syrup, it's been hanging on the side of a shed for 4 years and the hooks it was hanging upon put two holes in the Royalex up near the gunnel. So there will be some patching going on, but my 11 year old boy will sure enjoy it next season (when he's bigger/stronger) and hopefully a little more respect in it after he helps get "dirty" fixing her up!!!

Sugary Sweet

That is excellent! The OT Pack is a great boat and periodically I do regret selling mine.

weighs 31 lbs.

The boat is an absolute blast, when I can get it back from my 12 yr old daughter...she loves it. She was out on the lake for over 2 hours the other day....I got pooped following her in my coleman anchor.

I'm going to name it snotless...since the previous owners beat the snot out of it, but it has a bright future ahead of it.

Initial stability was a bit disconcerting being used to a heavier boat but I've grown to love the responsiveness.

I'll take some action shots when I get back this weekend
