We are also looking for the black fly report for Blue Mountain, Long Lake, and Raquette Lake? I hope they are all gone by now!

I was in Raquette sunday 6/3 and the black flies were brutal. They will likely be around until mid July. I was flyfishing a trout stream which is probaly the worst spot for them but they are there.
Raquette Lake seems to be the worst area for them. Some even say that since they started the BTI treatments in Old Forge/Inlet area that they all moved to Raquette Lake!
Welcome to the forum.

Saturday, this past weekend. Hike into Marcy Dam from the Loj, I got a few bites, but no swarming. The breeze most likely kept them away.

Since they seem to be everywhere by now, where are the black flies the LEAST annoying?

Are they starting to disapate anywhere yet or are we a few weeks away still? I haven't been out since May 19 and I'm starting to go stir crazy.

I was up at my camp in Minerva last weekend and BF's weren't bad at all. Deer flies are out and skeeters but overall not bad. A little bug spray was enough.

The black flies were unusually civil around Eighth Lake last weekend. A few tried to bite at times but I was able to go without a shirt and in swim trunks most of the time. It really surprised me. The water was great for swimming, also surprising.

The deer flies came and went, at least you can exact revenge on them, they are swattable.

They sky was so clear at nite Saturday it was incredible. Stars as I don`t recently recall.

Just came back from Moose River Plains and Cedar River Flow. Blackflies are as bad as I have ever seen. Tremendous swarms, very aggressive and they know what to do!! Deerflies and even horseflies are out too.

I spend a week at Low's Lake at this time every year. Normally it is horrid with black flies. On another trip there over this past Memorial day it was moderate with them. I just returned yesterday from Bog/Low's Lakes, seeing a total of maybe 3 black flies all week. Deer flies and punkies (no-seeums) were botherin' a-plenty, but the black flies seem to be gone.

Spent the weekend near Raquette, saw one deerfly, that was it. It was like late September, Chilly nites, that may have been the reason. It could be very different today or tomorrow with the increase in humidity and temp.

I,ll be heading into the woods around the john brooks lodge area on July 13th.
I was wondering about how bad the bugs will be? Do you think the black flies will be about gone? and any suggestions about the best spray to use because last year i went the deer fly seemed to be immune to OFF. thanks

talking with a friend at work today i was told that along with DEET being one of your best bets for black flies, Skin So Soft works great. Haven't tried it for myself yet.
