Cascade Pass closed May 12-13

The DOT has signs announcing this closure for next weekend to deal with bank stabilization and drainage issues. The detour will be via Upper Jay and Springfield Road to Fox Farm Road to Rt. 86. It appears that one will be able to get close enough (coming from the Lake Placid side) to climb Cascade and Porter. I'm guessing that, given the nature of the work, DOT will not want anyone even walking along Rt. 73 by the lakes, so don't count on doing a Pitchoff traverse.

saw those signs today, was wondering what was going on. Thanks for the info.

Here's a link to a newspaper article on the closure. Sounds as though hikers won't be able to use the Stagecoach Rock parking for Cascade and maybe not the other one east of the actual trailhead.
