ADK experience in verse

Musings on 2nd Pond

South of Lower Saranac Lake, Site 62, April 9, 2008, 5pm looking South

Water, patterns and light

Patches of smooth dark velvet
Mysterious, wavering and melded

Reflecting tips, connecting and disconnecting
Lines interspersed, coming and going

Bright points, silver blue
Shimmering, glinting here and there

Smooth and riffled, marching in formation
Crossing paths, waves and chevrons

Pulsating lines, sparkling white
Twinkling fireworks, bright fairy surface touches
Snaps and cracks of light

Breeze

Smooth feeling, gentle, slightly cool caress
Easy pushing brushes, waving invitations

Trees

Specially designed multitudes of green shapes
Each different, competing for attention

Vertical posts, curtain supporting
Shaggy, mossy, peeling

Wrinkled and craggy, young and old
Entwined, interlaced, multi-textured

Forest floor

Sculpted, soft, needly, twiggy carpet
Cones, laces, fringes

Shore

Restrained, peeled back, exposing
Hard, lumpy, bulbous, sweeping
Tumbling heavy holders, underlayment

Poking through, washing over
Meeting, edging, grains
Transitioning, liquid, bristle, solid

Senses

Feeding eyes, caressing nose
Calming mind, filling ears
Exciting heart, blessing soul

Mountains

Distant dark towers, broad, reaching up
Lone, clumped, tall, taller, tallest

Challenge issuing, named and measured
Pervasive background, charter members

White pines

Towering over story, shore guardians
Tops in retriever, head out the window disarray

Storm sculpted, formed to prevailing winds
Time and element written tilt and scars
Filterer of light, eagle home
