Ice meadows are those cool areas on a stream bank that get scoured by the ice every spring. The ice scrapes most of the soil away so that only a few things can grow there. Dwarf cherries, ferns, rare wildflowers and such. It looks like a nice smooth meadow, but is actually very rocky and festooned with ankle twisting rocks.
