Skilzman is correct. I just googled up 'Boiling Birch Sap' [and you need to do it too EdB]. it scorches quicker than maple sap because of the differences between fructose, glucose and sucrose....

Meaning of 'Adirondack'

Usually the definition of 'Adirondack' is 1. 'Bark Eater' but there have been others and many years ago I read where it meant 2. Eater of mucus' or 'Mucus eater' [seriously].
Maybe 'mucus' meant...

I don't believe they could charge enough to cover the cost of maintaining trails/bridges, etc, let alone wages etc, except for the very, very wealthy.
I don't use all the roads in the state either...

Ampersand, Wright, Catamount, Hurricane, Phelps, Howard, Jay and Alqonquin all offer woods and great views.
There would be some bushwacking on Howard but you won't find a better view of the Great...
