This and one last year were planned to get my now 6-year-old grandson and my city dweller son into the wood on a Base Camp trip. SRCA and SWCA offer a lot of variety for paddling with short carries.

From the parking area West of Paul Smith's College at Black Pd on Keese Rd can one paddle/carry due south into Spectacle Ponds or do you have to paddle east into Lower St Regis and then head south?

Here's a great downloadable map of Algonquin, unfortunately, the hard-copies of these maps are hard to find.

Parking @ Hoel Pd

What's the parking situation at Hoel Pd?

On the ADK Paddlers map I see parking just East of the put-in and on the Saranac Woods Paddle Area map, it's about a mile to West at the end of the road....

We were camped on an island on Follensby Clear and had plenty of fire wood, from Stewart's.

If you camp on an island you need to bring your own wood.

I think the biggest losers are Pollywog and...

I think the biggest losers are Pollywog and Little Green.

I don't understand why LG was hit so hard. It's no-pay car camping spaced further apart then Square or Rollins.

I also like those sites...
