All in all, the Middle/ Lower Saranac lock might best be concreted in to keep the gas guzzlers out of an otherwise beautiful but shallow pond.

It's sickening to see a half hundred pontoon boats...

Stance in the Boat

I checked Pete's website which was inconclusive re tandems, but it doesn't make any difference, the important thing for fishing is stance in the boat. One can both see and cast farther, or swing a...

D'accord!

I agree with Mike, that the Raddison/ Sports Pal isn't a good paddling boat nor is it seaworthy. At 35 lbs it's reasonably light, but the short length and wide center yield a length/width ratio...

We call those strips of wood outwales, part of the gunwales set, or sometimes just rails. They are constructed of aluminum, composites, vinyl or wood. When wood is chosen, a few thousand board feet...

Time

I did the L-L trip a few years back in a medium effort day. Expanding the duration to three days would require creativity.

I'm sure Adk Lakes & Trails, Mac's, Raquette River and St. Regis will all...

Saratoga Paddlefest

The Mtn Man Saratoga Paddlefest was an exercise in hypothermia. Cold, wet, windy on Saturday, colder and windier but dry on Sunday. The wind laid and it warmed just about when the last hull was tied...

PhotoShop

Those appear to be original Bell/ORC boats, down to the decal fonts from the mid- 90's. I can't remember if that's Rumulus or Remus, but the font was on my Dell/MicroSoft computer at the time.

Ted was left with NorthWind 17.5X36 and Magic 16X29 plugs when ORC bought him out in 06. He's straight sided both, removing the tumblehome to allow use of one piece molds. He has also stretched the...

?

Standing in a solo canoe to improve sight and cast distance seems to pretty well cover the bases for flyfishing. Am I missing something?

I've always wondered why Hul-a-vator buyers didn't spend the cash on a lighter hull in the first place; obviating the need for the mechanical lift. OP seems to be in a similar, self induced...

Need to decide

A 16 ft tandem will make a fine solo boat for a huge guy but will not work at all for two guys, one of whom is big. What works well at ~ center width with a flattish bottom doesn't work as well when...

The Solo Plus, virtually the same Bob Brown boat as the Fusion he did for Bell, is an unresponsive solo and a very tender tandem that will not turn. Encounter is a dedicated solo way too skinny and...

Or, maybe

Maybe our speedy poster is running a special boat. As they get skinnier the Froude number changes. At rec kayak width, Length to width ratio of ~ 8, he's need a ~ 26 ft hull to achieve that speed,...

The Tow issues

Towing issues were well covered by WIlderness above, but a thought for those who like numbers.

When we haul a dingy behind a paddlecraft we are not quite doubling the amount of skin, or hull...

In theory the reason we have judges is to decide fine points of law as written that the public may not understand, particularly when biased on our own behalf. The law gives us a decision and a...

Placid boatworks Fire

What a loss. It's difficult to wrap my mind around after past years co-building it from a leased space, a SpitFire stripper and a list of supplies.

When boat factories burn, they burn hot and...
